Sid is a Consulting Actuary with United Health Actuarial Services, Inc. (UHAS). His understanding of the health care industry and management experience has been utilized for a wide variety of consulting and peer review health and welfare projects while at UHAS.
Since joining UHAS, Sid has used his extensive knowledge of the health care industry to counsel ACOs on risk analysis, contracts with carriers, design of risk sharing arrangements, and valuation of liabilities. He has also advised on claim cost development, product pricing, and valuation on captive arrangements, conducted an extensive review of an actuarial opinion for insolvency for a state insurance department, modeled pharmacy and network discounts, provided insight on Medicare Advantage, consulted on retiree medical options, and reviewed financial statement and surplus analyses.
Sid has worked in the life and health insurance industry for over 35 years, and for nearly 20 years he has served as the Chief Actuary with Everence Financial (formerly Mennonite Mutual Aid). In that role, he has directed various product lines including Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, individual and small group insurance, large group pools, statutory financial statements, and annuity and life insurance. His functional expertise includes product development and pricing, renewal rating, regulatory filing and approvals, analysis of experience, financial results, trends and key metrics, budgeting and projections, and valuation. He has extensive experience in large group risk pooling and advising on plan design and other approaches to reduce health care costs.
Sid is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He earned his master’s degree in Mathematics from The Ohio State University and his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Goshen College.
